Knoxville Sex Crimes Attorneys
Effective Legal Guidance from an Aggressive Legal Team
Sex crime allegations are very serious legal matters. The stigma of being accused of some kind of unlawful sexual activity can cause major damage to your reputation, your family and social life, and your job or career. Conviction of a sex offense can lead to even more severe consequences of prison time and fines as well as the requirement to register as a sex offender. Sex offender registration makes your identity available to the public and places various restrictions and rules on your life as well as rules you must obey to avoid further legal trouble.

Sex Crimes in Tennessee
Sex crimes involve non-consensual or forced types of sexual conduct or they involve the possession of illegal sexual material such as child pornography. They can also include crimes that violate public standards of morality in this country, such as acts of indecent exposure.
These crimes can include the following:
- Sexual assault
- Sexual battery
- Statutory rape
- Date rape
- Lewd conduct
- Indecent exposure
- Solicitation of prostitution
- Child molestation
- Child sexual abuse
- Luring a minor
- Child pornography possession and distribution
As in any criminal case, how you are charged will depend on the nature of the offense and any aggravating details. Charges can range from lower misdemeanors to the most serious felony charge of a Class A felony.
For example, sexual battery consists of forcing another to engage in some type of unlawful sexual activity against that person’s consent. When such an act involves actual bodily injury or when the alleged act involved a deadly weapon, it can be considered to be an aggravated offense. In these cases, “simple” sexual battery is charged as a Class E felony, punishable by up to six years in prison and/or a fine of up to $3,000. Aggravated sexual battery as well as rape are charged as Class B felonies. These offenses are punishable by eight up to 30 years in prison and/or fines of up to $25,000. The most serious sex crimes are charged as Class A felonies carrying penalties of 15 to 60 years in prison and fines of up to $50,000.
Sex Offender Registration
A sex crime conviction often results in mandatory sex offender registration. A conviction of a violent sex offense, such as rape, may lead to mandatory registration for life. In lesser offenses, you may have the option to request to end registration requirements after 10 years. Failure to register, failure to update your registration when moving, or failure to comply with any sex offender registration rules while on probation or parole can all result in further criminal charges and legal difficulties.
Often sex crimes involve “he said she said” circumstances where accusations or charges are based on scanty or no real evidence. However, these cases are still taken seriously and have the potential to wind up in a conviction. Because of the seriousness of any sex crime accusations, it is vital that you have strong representation as soon as possible.
